"Why does the Black man say, 'freedom is doing what I want to do!' and why is it that every thing he 'wants to do' enriches the European?" - Dr. Amos...

When we get into SOCIAL AMNESIA, into forgetting our history, we also FORGET or MISINTERPRET the history and MOTIVES of others as well as our motives. The way to learn of our own creation, how we came to be who and what we are, is getting to know ourselves. It is through getting to know the self INTIMATELY that we get to know the forces that shaped us as a self. Therefore, knowing the self becomes a knowledge of the world. If we don't know ourselves, not only are we a puzzle to ourselves, other people are also a puzzle to us as well. We assume the WRONG IDENTITY and identify ourselves with our enemies. If we don't know WHO WE ARE, then WE ARE WHOMEVER somebody tells US WE ARE! – Dr. Amos Wilson

TEACHES ABOUT THE MENTAL STATE OF BLACK CHILDREN

We must recognize deeply in our hearts, in the very bottom of our psyches, our Afrikanicity. Much of the pathology of Afrikan people today is this vain hope that somehow we will be able to escape our Afrikan heritage, that somehow the white man will become colorblind and will not see us for whom and what we are, that somehow we will be looked upon as some kind of abstraction — as just a man [woman]. Not as an Afrikan man [woman], not as a black man [woman], but as a man [woman], a human being only — without culture, without recognition, without identity. Too many of us want to shed our Afrikanicity for this kind of bogus abstract existence, which is no existence at all, and which is the ultimate acceptance of invisibility. We must recognize that we are an Afrikan people and we will be Afrikan people to the end of time — and we must accept all that goes with that. We must accept the GOOD, the BAD, and all of the POSSIBILITIES that go with being Afrikan. We must accept the fact that this white man is never going to accept us totally, AND GET USED TO THE IDEA! – Dr. Amos Wilson (1985)
